[Shotimes] transmission woes... was: wrecked annabelle

Ok, gang, looks like annabelle suffered a little more than I had previously
thought. I was driving it to get inspected today (heh...) and for a good
while, the engine just span (spun?) up like it was in neutral... but I was in
drive. That was a problem. It didn't happen again, but the engine takes a
looooong time to make the 2-3 shift, and it feels like there's less power in
2nd gear than there used to be. this, combined with new noises coming from the
engine bay, leads me to believe that that tranny is going through some severe
issues... any ideas as to what might be happening? And, more importantly, will
it require a complete rebuild?
