To keep the analogy going, if we do that, we have to add another item to our 
car's checklist:

"11.  Every time you start your SHO, it would transmit code IDs for your 
engine, computer, transmission and stereo via wireless modem communication to Ford 
Motor Co., which would check them against their database and shut your entire 
car down if they didn't match."
