I believe the answer is that it will technically boot but then lock you in
the activation process until it is successful. As for XP reporting what is
installed with it, I believe that would be a violation of the license
agreement. As I said, after initial activation, XP doesn't talk to MS any
more unless it tells you it's going to.

Yes I was being serious. One of the IT guys here at work told me about
XP reporting back to Microsoft about registered programs. I was wondering
if someone who had a lot of pirated software on his computer unplugged
the phone line every time they booted the machine, if they could get by
the reporting part.
Not that I do. I would like to put XP on my machine at home, but only so
I
can setup accounts so that my wife and kids can log in easily without
having to do the ctrl-alt-del thing.
