[Shotimes] RE: OT - Autoweek stuff

I'm stuck on the nameplate too.  If the point of making the car and
giving it a specific name was to use nostalgia to sell them, I
suppose I can see the point, but features and performance are what
matter more to me.  For instance, if they made a Mercury Sable SHO,
and the only difference between the two might be better interior and
more bells and whistles than it's Ford counterpart, I would buy it.

By the same token, if Lincoln has mated the Getrag 5-speed to the V8
and made a 6.5sec car, again I would be interested.  But as things
unfolded, Ford always came up short in some place.  Lincoln though
definitely has a blue hair stigma.  Down here, Lincolns are as
commonplace as water.  But try and find a 5-speed LS at any
dealership when it was available and you would be out of luck.  The
dealerships know who their clientele are, and I can tell you it's
none of us.
