Yes. It is a very expensive on the edge mod. I think you would be splitting
hairs and the power increase would be very tiny! Besides all the other
things you would need to watch out for.
Your right it won't hit a standing puddle of oil but inside the crankcase
of a running engine and especially a high RPM engine like the SHO, the oil
will be a froth and the entire crankcase acts like it filled completely with
a low viscosity fluid. So scrapers, Windage trays, top end oil restrictors
plugs, vacuum pump setups and knife edging the crank are all trying to get
at the same thing. Oil control. So I would definitely go to a dry sump oil
system with multiple scavenging pumps before jumping to the knife edge crank
counter weights. But if class rules prohibit the dry sump (this is mostly a
racing mod anyway) then I would fall back to the less effective methods of
oil control.

PS: Smokey is a engine god! A good ole boy who will blow you doors off! They
number of things he is credited with is just unbelievable. The most
interesting part about Smokey is the rumor that his best stuff has NEVER
been revealed because it won him so many races. To me his ultimate was the
9/10ths scale 1967 Chevelle he built for NASCAR. This car is totally
responsible for the body templates that NASCAR now checks EVERY car with.
Who would have thought of this stuff?? This was 35 years ago!
Beware of men in cowboy hats!
