[Shotimes] knife edge crank

I remember many times NASCAR (but it wasn't called that then, it was Grand
National Stock Car Racing) Officials disqualified Smokey simply because they
couldn't figure out WHAT the modifications that he had done to the car were
for! One time during a tech inspection the officials removed the gas tank
from Smokey's car. An argument ensued about something else on the car and
Smokey jumped in it, started it up and drove it away with the gas tank still
laying on the ground. He always maintained that it wasn't cheating, it was
just creative interpretation of the rules!

Uhhh, no. Why would anyone fill anything with oxides of nitrogen (NOx)? Now,
if you were meaning N2O, nitrous oxide, or NAAAAWWWWSSSSS :-) then, yes, you
are correct.
Alot of the stuff that was talked about in "Days of Thunder" that Harry did
to cars, was actually done by Smokey. Well, Harry was based on Smokey :-) My
initiation into the auto world was from Smokey. Way, way back (late
70's/early 80s) when he had a Q&A column in PopSci or PopMech (can't
remember, as I had subs to both) called "Say, Smokey..." Back then, I didn't
know a thing about cars, or who did what to them (I was about 10-12 then),
but one thing was for sure, I was always impressed with his answers (not to
mention his humor always made me laugh).
