Scary indeed!

There shouldn't be any cause for worry, though, as I had the lower intake
ports covered up very well during my spark plug checks and was very slow
and careful during intake reinstallation. If there /had/ been anything
sucked into the lower intake ports, then the sound would have shown up
immediately after restart and probably would have sounded much worse. If I
dropped something into the upper intake, I most likely would have heard it
when I picked the intake up off the ground or during reinstallation.

As it stands, though, the engine idled *perfectly* for at least two minutes
after I fixed my EGR vaccum leak. It then gave me a slightly different
stumble than the night before, at which I point I shut the engine off and
waited a moment. It was upon restart that the sound appeared.

Can you tell I've gone over all this in my mind a million times? :)

I plan on checking out the exhaust-related ideas later on this afternoon,
moving on to the valvetrain if the exhaust proves to be a dead end.
Barring all else, I have Tony planning a trip to my house to lend his ear,
hands and tools in the quest to find and remove this new-found sound.

Wish us well! I just hope I'm not looking at a new engine.

Adam

Now THERE's a scary thought!! Those ports are just sitting there, with
their mouths wide open.....I get chills about that every time I take an
intake off.

And it's totally possible, too, that something is bouncing around in there.
Eeeuucckk!!
