Good I was hoping someone would mention WRC. If there were ever a racing
sport to be called "Real Racing" it would be WRC.
I'm stunned anyone would ever refer to NASCAR as "Real Racing." It's racing
alright, but it damn sure doesn't deserve a title like that. You're still
only making left turns. It requires skill, but not any kind of skill that
has anything to do with handling of a vehicle in varied driving conditions.
I guarantee you put a NASCAR boy in the WRC he'd flip his car in less than 5
mins, hit a tree, or mow down a bunch of those idiot spectators that stand
like 5" from a hairpin in the rain. Since when does doing something scary
while in a vehicle qualify something as "Real Racing" anyway? If that were
the case then reckless street racing is "Real Racing."
Here, let me drop a totally different perspective on you for why NASCAR is
far from real racing.
How many NASCAR videogames are currently out there?
Less than 10 not counting non-racing games from back in the day or any EA
Sports series game, because EA sports just makes poor games period. And
they ALL suck. I've played a couple NASCAR games, and they are HORRIBLE
games. You get good graphics and that's IT. But what do you expect, the
game has nothing to do with actual driving ability. It's about efficient
fuel usage, drafting, pitting at the right time, the correct outfit of your
vehicle for conditions, and not hitting other cars or the wall. Ok, there's
a little bit of driving ability required......passing on the straight-aways
or around yet another left turn. Basically they do a great job simulating
NASCAR. And the real reason people like the NASCAR games is that they're so
good at simulating crashes......which is the real reason NASCAR even has
fans. My friend pick up NASCAR Heat, and we played one race, then spent the
next hour trying to crash vehicles, and then took the game back because it
wasn't a real racing game.
Now pick another racing series. OK let's be unfair and say RALLY. Not only
are there a BUNCH of different rally games, but every rally game I've played
is about DRIVING and is a fun diverse game to play........except Rallisport
2. It's a reason to buy an XBOX if there ever was one. Ever see that
Nissan commercial that looked real with a hit of CG to it? That was in game
from Rallisport 2. It's SICK. If you love WRC, then this is YOUR game.
Take everything from real rally driving and put it in a game. The navigator
system is AMAZING, and the play control is the closest to real life physics
I've EVER seen. This is a game that you can play on a 10" portable TV with
the sound turned off, and you'll still physically lean into turns. 1st
person view, with the wipers going is incredible. I could go on and on and
on and on about this game. I'm not even a big time racing game player, but
I can't stay away from this game. NOTHING compares to it, this game is like
the next level in videogame tech. If you haven't played this game, or even
seen it, you NEED to.
In closing, I just want to make one more analogy.
Ever notice how strongly NASCAR championship belts resemble "Professional"
wrestling belts?
