You should try NFS Underground.  There are 4 different modes you can
race in, circuit, lap knockout, drifting and drag.  The simulation
and physics are quite good.

Plus the act of upgrading the cars is quite similar to what we do on
our cars.  Engine, brakes, suspension, weight are all involved and
each has a different effect depending on which car you select.
