Carl,

Welcome to the crazy world of the SHO owner! Oil filter
placement is not the best, but there are some ways to combat it.

Some cut up a plastic milk gallon and use it as a funnel,
but I found that messier than everything!

I just slightly loosen the filter till oil starts to run, if
you don't unscrew it much more, most of the oil runs down
the filter and bypasses the starter.

The oil on the starter isn't a real problem, and if you wipe
up the area, including the subframe, it doesn't really drip
on the floor much.

I have also tried poking a hole in the bottom of the filter,
but this doesn't work real well, but you can give it a try.

The oil won't get to the flywheel.

When you re-do the clutch get all the little parts,
bushings, pads etc, and also a new clutch fork. This part
can wear and make the clutch action feel bad. Not expensive.

Also, consider buying the ceramic throwout bearing. I think
Josh at SHO Nut sells it. The original style bearing is
what kills clutches in these cars, chances are the clutch
material itself is fine in your car, but the bearing is
eating the pressure plate fingers so the clutch drags all
the time. The ceramic bearing appears to solve this problem
or at least extend clutch life to about double what it
normally is. Unless you are racing and doing lots of mods,
a stock Ford Clutch is just fine.

You don't say where you live, but you should know that there
is a national club, SHO Club that I run, that is an
extension of the original SHO Registry that started in 1991.
We put on an annual convention, this year, #12 is in San
Francisco CA! We have rented a great racetrack for a day of
"driver training" and lapping that is more fun than you can
imagine....OK< you can probably imagine a lot of fun, but
this has to be near the top of the list! :)

Check it out at:

You have already found SHOtimes, the best place for
service/mods info.

As you fall under the spell of the SHO, you should know this
support group will be here to help you with your new
addiction. Don't resist it, embrace it and know that you
will soon need to get a new, better job to pay for
everything! :)

Again, welcome and be like the MGB owners: "Safey FAST!"
