Carl P: "Oh, and at least squid, calamari, is good food to me and is very
much different than a benzene or petroleum based item... Food in a washing
machine. Hmmm."

Hah! I don't recall ever even thinking about that last part. All we were
worried about was stinkin' up the clothes and linens. Never mind what might get
on the squid!

You're right about putting clothes, rags, etc with petroleum derivatives into
the washing machine. The new washers all have tags warning not to do that.
It seems unlikely that there would be enough flammables to separate out and
float at the top of a churning washer, and then catch fire. But I can see if you
just throw stuff in, close the lid and don't start it up right away, you
might accumulate vapors and blow the lid off when you do. It probably did happen
somewhere and the victim sued, that's how the tag got there I suppose.

Maybe next time I'll marinate the squid in 151 rum and then I can tenderize
it and cook it in the same appliance. A new menu item, "Blackened Calamari a
la Maytag".
