OK - this is what I found:

Removed my intake last week and disassembled it this weekend for cleaning
purposes.  I used SimpleGreen, non-chlor brake cleaner (thanks Kirk) and a
bottle washing brush I bought at the local discount store.  When I was done
the results were very good but I wanted better.  Someone mentioned using the
high-pressure spray at the coin-op car wash but I wanted to clean the
intake, not me.  I figured HOT and soapy would do the trick so I loaded the
tanks (sans butterfly valve assy), snakes, horns, and crossover into the
dishwasher and ran a normal cycle with dishwashing detergent.  Guess what,
they came out GREAT!!!

I know you married guys may have trouble getting 'permission' to do this,
but there are no residual odors or stains inside the dishwasher.

The cam covers will definitely fit, but do you think the oil pan will?

OK; I admit.  I've had dishwasher salmon before.  (Wrap it up, throw it in
the dishwasher and let it do the steaming.)  Pretty good too, actually.
 
I could not imagine putting nasty valve covers in the dishwasher and then
washing my eating utencils in there afterwards though.  Perhaps if I was
single. :)
