finish line, got out and tried to >push his car over the finish line, and
passed out from the heat. That one wasn't very dull.
Nigel Mansell!
I was at Indy in 93 and 94. He was a rookie in CART in '93, with just a few
laps to go at Indy in 93 they had a re-start. He was in the lead, didn't
know that you could (and that most folks did) get on the gas back between
turn 3 and 4 on the re-start. Fitti and (can't remember the 3rd place car)
hung back and got a huge run on him, when they went green on the
frontstretch, they just blew by him. He went to 3rd, and drove the wheels
off the car trying to get it back, smacking the wall at one point. At that
point (just a few laps to go) it was pit and check the car out and finish
way back, or just stay out there. He stayed out there. That's guts! Go
sailing off into turn one at 230 mph after hitting the wall and not even
having the car checked out. As Hobbs would say, "you gotta have large
attachments to do that" <g>
He's one of my top 5 all time favorite drivers.
