[Shotimes] swapped PCM, problem persists

I was too tired to pull the codes after starting it with the replacement
X2J, but it ran the same (horrible). Would barely idle, pop like it was
firing on the wrong stroke, and spew a noxious cloud of super-richness.
BTW, are all X2J's non-EGR? Just curious, mine came from California, and
while most of the numbers matched it wasn't 100% identical to my old
one.

As it sits the only ignition component I haven't swapped is the crank
sensor. It's got some miles on it (at least 60-80k), but is by no means
original either. Can a crank sensor generate SPOUT and coil codes?
Following the Probst book, I put a digital volt meter on the PIP wire
feeding the DIS. It said I should see 3 to 7 volts, but I saw a hair
over 8. Is that bad?

I can't decide if I should do the crank sensor (again), and what to do
if that fixes it or not. If not my ideas are ranging from take it to a
dealer here, to tow it to Performance Plus (again), to sell it as is, to
part it out. Even if it did fix it, I've been dreaming of a newer, RWD
four door for a while now. But, I know I'd miss this car as soon as it
was gone. Decisions...
