I'll pass this along for any Gen1 owners ....
Installing a Gen2 door on a Gen1 car is turning out to be no big deal,
electrically. I'm doing the right front. There are three connector blocks
at the door jamb. Mostly it's plug-and-play. There are three changes to be
aware of:
--- Gen2 door has two white/purple wires expecting switched power (on when
headlamps are on) to illuminate LEDs in the lock and window switches. Gen1
car does not provide this but you can tap in where you wish.
--- There's a black/orange wire for the Door Ajar Indicator, and a
white/blue wire for Door Handle Switch. Between generations Ford swapped
which of the three connector blocks these two wires pass through. Swap 'em
back and you're set.
--- The wires for Window Switch Up and Window Switch Down are different
colors, and their pin positions are reversed (up is down, down is up). To
correct, just swap their pin positions.
The remaining issues are the exterior door cladding (I don't care about it
on this winter SHO) and the interior door handle. I will tackle the handle
later.
