This picture gives you a good idea of why your SHO might groan when
turning the steering wheel.  It shows the setup that came with the 92
compared to what was used both earlier and later in the V6 SHO era.  The
strut bearing is shallower and the strut mount is taller.

FWIW, the bearing that I removed, although grungy looking, still rotated
freely without problem.  George Fourchy's method of adding washers to the
strut mount studs also works on the 92 parts because it moves the whole
mount/bearing assembly away from the strut tower.
