[Shotimes] upgrading bulbs in headlights

Larry, etc.

Let me ax a stupid question...

Do Silverstars even need an upgraded harness? If not, do they perform
better/brighter with one?

I'm talking specifically about first gens here.

BTW, Advance/Discount Auto Parts has them for $30 a pair before a $5 rebate.

Thanks,

Mark

His site is informative and he is very helpful.

Rewiring the headlights with relays and direct power can result in great
gain over the poor stock wiring. Of course the weak stock design of the
headlights and the low position (worse if your car is lowered at all) will
handicap any upgrades you might install, but anything is better than stock.

I agree with Ian. There are many options out there that are better/cheaper
than the PIAA pitch.
Without commenting on PIAA's (see my previous post) The GI/II's suffer from
a crappy design of the lens coupled with bad material that yellows quickly.
Also as mentioned, almost all SHO's from the factory have the lights aimed a
bit on the low side.
Barring being lowered, First would reaim the headlights see if that helps -
most likely it won't.
2nd choice will be get a high quality harness with the appropriate relays,
cost average would be in the mid 30.00's +/- shipping. Then get the
appropriate silverstar replacement bulb.
You should see a very noticeable difference.
Ford's choice of wire gauage in the stock lighting harness leaves much to be
desired.
