I have a spare timiing sproket or 2 laying around if you need one, the
shutter is bent, but you can swap shutter parts with 3 little phillips head
screws. Chances are the crank is fine, the woodruff keuy and crank pulley
and timing sprocket wear faster than theh crank would ever. I have a single
spare woodruff key but that is part of my personal stash, but if you go to
your local ford dealer and have them do a locate on the part number, they
should be ablle to find one on a shelf. I found 23 of them at different
dealers across the eastcoast the last time I had a locate done for me.
There are no spliines on the crank itself. So that is BS :-)
If you need a timing sproket let me know and I'll fish one out for ya. $10
plus shpping sound like a deal? Email me off list iif you want one.

Subject: [Shotimes] Crank Cancer - Cracked woodruff key, fubar timing
sprocket
Seems I have the infamous "crank cancer." Couldn't figure it out myself, and
partly didn't want to deal with it, but a local mechanic found it. The
woodruff key is cracked and the timing sprocket looks just like the pictures
on shotimes.com.
Couple of questions here.
1) Where can I get a new woodruff key and sprocket?
2) The mechanic is saying I need a whole new crank. He says the crank, where
the sprocket goes on, is supposed to have a bunch of splines on it and mine
are worn off, but I've never seen what he's talking about on a crank in any
engine. I'm thinking this part is BS, but I wanted to ask the experts on the
list.
3) If the crank really is bad, I'm guessing it'll be a lot cheaper to just
drop another engine in there rather than rebuild the one I've got... Anyone
have a spare 3.2L they want to get rid of? :)
Thanks,
Rich Edelman
