Bruce is right. The splines part is BS. If you need a picture of a
"perfect"crank to prove it, let me know.

Subject: [Shotimes] Crank Cancer - Cracked woodruff key, fubar timing
sprocket

> Seems I have the infamous "crank cancer." Couldn't figure it out myself,
and partly didn't want to deal with it, but a local mechanic found it. The
woodruff key is cracked and the timing sprocket looks just like the pictures
on shotimes.com.

> 2) The mechanic is saying I need a whole new crank. He says the crank,
where the sprocket goes on, is supposed to have a bunch of splines on it and
mine are worn off, but I've never seen what he's talking about on a crank in
any engine. I'm thinking this part is BS, but I wanted to ask the experts on
the list.
> 3) If the crank really is bad, I'm guessing it'll be a lot cheaper to just
drop another engine in there rather than rebuild the one I've got... Anyone
have a spare 3.2L they want to get rid of? :)
