I cut the feeler into thirds, and placed them equally around the crank with the
Locktite already there (and key), then slid the gear onto that mess.  Made sure it
was up against the crank, then just put everything together.  I'll never have to
worry about torquing that bolt again.  The dealer would have totaled the car, with
the mileage and the worn crank.

I changed the front oil seal just for good measure....the original one had 201K
miles, but wasn't leaking.  But now I don't have to worry about anything more than
the water pump.

It now has 19,000 miles to go to retirement, with nary a whimper since, except for
that PFE sensor thing last spring.
