Boy, you got whacked!! Did you at least get kissed afterward???? ;-)

Even for someone who is all-thumbs, if you have a basic toolset, a starter
is pretty easy to change.

Tim

My '93 ATX starter just failed this weekend, and the symptoms were just like
yours, EXCEPT the problems you are experiencing once the car was started. I
had somebody replace it due to the weather, and the rest of my honey do
list,
and it cost me $320 installed!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Another one of those "top of my head" thoughts, but it sounds like the
battery cables/connectors are the problem, especially since it affects
both
starting and operation once it's started. A bad starter would have ZERO
effect on the car once it is started.

Ok, just got done driving the 35 miles from work to my home town. I went
into the license for about an hour, came out and my car would not start.
All dash lights were on, and no signs prior of anything else going on,
running pretty good actually on the way home.

I tried to jump start it, nothing, took the battery to Auto Zone, tested
Good. Solenoid clicks when turning the key. We tried to bang the starter
still would not start. So we are guessing the starter is the problem.

Now, the real question. Being a manual trans, we push start it, got it
running, however now it will not hold idle. Car will stay running as long
as I'm in the gas, revving to 1000 or so keeps it going, but getting of
the
gas it will die. Anyone know what could be the problem? We are pretty
sure
the starter is failed, I'm taking it off tomorrow and having it tested.
Would the two issues be related? If so, how could a failed starter keep it
  from holding idle?

  Any help is appreciated!!! TIA
