Nope, they go by the Snell rating, and it's usually only 10 years back.

Remember that Snell's recommendation is that a helmet be replaced every 5
years, so this is sorta double that. Helmets don't carry "born on" dates,
anyway.

One advantage is that, coming into the summer, there may be some nice deals
on SA2000 helmets as they clear out the stock!

If a 2000 rating helmet that was produced in Oct 2000 is good for 10 years,
shouldn't a 2000 rating helmet that was produced in Jan '04 be good for the
same 10 years ?

Seems to me an actual "born on date" would be good.
