[Shotimes] AC filling question?

I know this is the wrong time of year to be asking an AC question, but if
filling r-134a from a 30lb tank, should one be filling with the engine
running and the presure switch jumpered, and with the tank right side up
(gas) or upside down (liquid) I can't remember what my friend told me and it
is too late to call his house.
 
I need it for tomorrow's drive to TN, as my DEF has not worked in a long
time and it bothers me :-(
