Bruce:
Things to remember on ALL A/C systems car or home. With the container is
right side up and the valve on top, you pull the gas phase of the
refrigerant. This needs to go in the LOW side of the system. This will
always be the larger diameter line and the input into the compressor. If you
slug liquid into the low side you can damage the compressor. Can't compress
a liquid! You can also turn the container upside down and hook this to the
high side or the small diameter line. This will put liquid directly into the
system right after the compressor. This is fast and many shops fill systems
this way. Be careful because it's very easy to overfill a system. You need
to have the bottle on a scale and weigh how much refrigerant is put in.
So to answer your question. Tank right side up. Hooked to the service port
on the larger diameter line. If you don't have gauges hooked up, look for
the hard lines/filter dryer starting to sweat. If it's cold out you might
not get any sweating or will be hard to see. This should be close to the
correct amount of refrigerant.
