No need. The car will still run with a bad CID and you won't get stranded.
The crank sensor is the one that will leave you dead in the water. The
system can assume the timing from other data. It takes several attempts
because if the CID is not working the computer has to try several different
cylinders to fire. Sometimes it can guess correctly the first time sometimes
it takes a couple of try's to properly identify the correct cylinder to
fire. It takes several complete cycles of the key on and off. If you have an
extended continuous cranking before it starts then it's something else.
Possible weak fuel pump or a filter that needs changing.
