Marlene;
Just finished this job yesterday.
Step 1: Confirm it is the seal in the front, look at the front edge of the
oil pan, lower edge of timing cover, there is a "vent". It will be very wet
if one of the seals is leaking, probably running down the oil pan and/or
dripping on the cat convertor and smelling bad. Mine only leaked 1 qt per
1000 mi and it stunk. Mine also leaked onto the rear motor mount area.
Step 2: Buy all 4 seals (not just one): 1 front crank seal and all 3 cam
seals - you won't be sorry - if one is leaking, they probably all are or
will soon - they're $20 total
Step 3: Have big braker bar or impact gun handy to pop loose 120 ft lb
balancer bolt. everything else is hand tools
Then begin:
Remove: Battery & tray
front intake balance tube
engine dampner shock and its fender bracket
loosen power steering reservoir and move out of way, tie back, watch drips
outer belts
a/c tensioner bracket assy
harmonic dampner (the 120 ft lb bolt)
all 3 timing covers
timing belt
cps sensor at bottom only
lower timing gear
both upper timing gears
upper back timing cover plate
cam sensor
replace all 4 seals
don't scratch crank or camshafts!!!!!
re-install
took me 7 hours going slowly & carefully with no air tools
Good luck!
Lee
94 MTX - dry as a bone now!
