OTOH, I've been told that it can't! Nothing is impossible, but I would say
that it would be a mofo to do. It's been a few years, but as I recall, there
isn't enough room to get the bolts out.

I've been told it can. You have to get to it from underneath. If you can
get the
car high enough that you can stand under it, things are much more accessable
and
less painful.
It might be a good idea to make sure it is in fact leaking....maybe some
spray
cleaner or water aimed at the suspected spot would show bubbling of gases.
