[Shotimes] OT my mom's car

Sorry this is OT and not even about Fords, but I told my mom
I would look into it before she takes the car into the dealer.
Her mid 90's Grand Am has the Theft System light coming on.
It used to be intermittent, but now it's on pretty much all of
the time.  The owner's manual says that if it's on when you're
driving the car, you should take it in for service.  Well it is,
and she wants to take it in, but I figure maybe there's some-
thing I could check that would be cheaper than having the
dealer look at it.  This is the factory system, and I don't know
anything about it.  Any help would be appreciated; as it is
for my mom (playing for sympathy here).
