I would not use one that had been 'just sitting around'. Letting air in the
system is very bad. Id you haven't had Freon in the system, you not only
need to replace the part that is broken, but you need to replace the
desiccant bag as well.

i am in need of an A/C compressor. i was wondering if any one had one 
sitting around that they know works. i would really like to get one that
