I never used to get extended warranties. On the '89 SHO, there was a period
in the 2-3-year-old range, with about 50-60K miles, when it seemed like
everything crapped out on it. No longer have the receipts, but it cost me
somewhere in the $4-6K range. For as much as it pains me, I now get the
extended warranties.

We did hold off on my wife's Honda, but the '95 Del Sol had a 3/36 warranty
from the factory, and had no issues in the first three years (well, a bad
speaker!), so we didn't bother getting the extended. Still running fine
after 9 years and 41K miles.

Ahhh.... good point. I didn't get an extended warranty on the VW so I'm at
their mercy on that one.
