Jose's boss brace RE: [Shotimes] I'm short on the Short shift

I have it installed now, and it was a tranny-saver for me. I got it as a
just-incase piece because I knew my boss was already had a hairline fracture
in it, and the only reason I was still able to use it was because I had the
bolt hole drilled out deeper and a longer bolt was used to secure the
shifter rod.

I figured I would hold out on installing the brace until the time was right.
Well, the right time came sooner than I thought. My boss ended up cracking a
piece of itself off length wise, basically splitting the 'shaft' of the boss
in half so you could see part of the threaded hole. Now, even with the
longer bolt in there, the bolt itself was as loose as a goose and ended up
stripping all of the threads it came in contact with, and my trans was
rendered useless.

I installed the shifter reinforcement bracket, but it was of no help because
I still had no where to screw the bolt into because the boss was broken and
stripped.

I then had a big old nut welded to the brace to act as a make-shift boss.
This ended up making the shifter useful again. Nice crisp shifts with
positive stop feedback, so you know you are in gear. No more bending and
flexing of the shifter boss. No more wondering if that last spongy feeling
shift actually made it into gear or not. To me it felt like a whole new car
because I may have had a fubarred boss from the day I bought the car.

In my opinion, for anyone that is in a 'broken boss' position right now,
your best bet is to just saw off the boss, get the brace from Jose, have a
nut that matches the thread of the shifter bolt welded on and never have to
worry about it again.

Next time I get under the car for an oil change I can take pictures of it if
anyone is interested in see it.
