Noah,
For anything of any weight, USPS is VERY expensive. for up
to about 3 pounds or slightly heavier stuff REAL close to
you, USPS isn't bad, but get over 3 pounds and ship it
halfway across the country, and it gets expensive real quick.
Plus for a lot of stuff I ship, USPS just isn't an option.
They won't take anything pressurized or flamable.
I ship a lot by UPS, and using their basic ground service,
even stuff up to 12-15 pounds across the country isn't that
bad. But one-two pounds is more expensive UPS than USPS>
I quit using Fed Ex when it became clear they were incapable
of doing anything overnight. I tried about 6 packages
through them overnight, even dropped it off at a specific
location at their recommendation, and they still took 2-3
days every time for overnight shipping. And they refused to
refund any money.
I just checked several rates for packages I had recently
sent by UPS and the rate was identical. I have also checked
DHL (STILL I have never seen one of their trucks) and they
are a LOT more expensive than UPS.
