Wait a minute....I keep forgetting this.  Maybe it isn't the problem, because others
who are more familiar haven't mentioned it, but isn't this the era of the ATX Gen 2
cars that won't start if the radiator overflow bottle sensor is shorted?  Seems like
there is a group of cars out there that has the sensor circuit wired through the
ignition circuit.

Maybe it is as simple as unplugging the sensor wire from the sensor there, right by
the radiator filler.
