I had forgotten how to do it so that's why I didn't mention it.

Jef, make sure you get it fixed very quickly. If you get rear-ended and the
guy who hits you can prove that your tail lights were not working, there
could be some liability issues here.

 You got the answer on why it's doing this. Now let's get you out of park!
 Turn the key on but not far enough to light the dash lights. If the dash
lights come on turn the key back but not all the way off where you can
remove the key. Now the shift button should allow you to unlock the shifter
and move it. Move the shifter to neutral. Now you can start the car and
shift wherever you want. Next time you shift into park you will have to
repeat all this. Now DON'T drive around like this because you might get hit
in the rear due to lack of brake lights!
