Your plan to swap wheels is a good one. Either swap front to back, or
swap on a different set of front wheels/tires. If no change, I'd say
it's a bad half-shaft.

Subject: [Shotimes] Acceleration shake
Hey all, just wanted to hear the banter about guesses on a steering
shake. It happens under accelration and peaks intensity in the 30-50mph
range. the shake feels very lateral (left right) not like an out of
balance tire, but like someone is pushing back and forth on the car.
It's not terrible, but it's on the short list to be fisxed on the 92.
The PO said the car had been into the shop to have that looked at and
the suspension checked out OK. I have yet to throw it on the lift to
verify this, perhaps i will ge tthe opportunity this weekend. She said
the shop's claim, and it seems quite reasonable, is that the 6 yr old
Firehawks are the culprit. I could see that in an old tire. they are
in moderatley bad shape, and need replacement.
so the plan is to put it on the lift and check for things that are
loose. If I find nothing then I will toss n (quite temporarily) a set
of spare wheels tires. Temporarily becasue the tires are showing cords,
and I just want to take it around the block to see if the shake
disappears.
Ok, so everyone start placing your bets.... What's gonna be the
problem? What am I gonna give the winner? NOTHING!!! But you get to
know you are a SHO brainiac.
