I know it depends a lot on your driving style. Even with a lot of
city miles, I can get 22-23 out of the 93. But, this is being quite
cautious. I hav a vacuum gauge in that car so I can keep pretty close
tabs to how hard I run the engine. Highway sees high 20's, but again
if you are cautious and attentive. My "mix" generally puts me in the
25mpg area.
I have a harder time with the 92 though because it is so quiet, and
the throttle is so much lighter. I tend to step on it a little
harder. it's especially easy since there is no needle that sweeps
toward zero in that car as you jam th gas. I am in the 22-23mpg range
in a "mix" of driving.
Best I have ever gotten was out of the 93, I got 32.2mpg in a mix of
city/country roads/interstate. I was extremely cautions though and I
was making every effort to get the best milage I could. (Like driving
with the windows up and only running "vent" to avoid the compressor)
It was a fun experiment, but I had to totally not have any fun with
the car.
Running the compressor does make a considerable difference in milage.
Slowing down is also hugely effective as aerodynamic drag is a
function of Velocity^2
For those who really want to know my highway driving secrets... .i
generally set my pace not based upon the speedo, but based on the Vac
gauge. I will get up to highway speed and hold the throttle (not
cruise control) at a constant vac level. Usually 18in Hg. that puts
you in a pace that is about 72-75 on flat ground, but may drop to 60
up hills. One needs to be cautious too becasue a good run down a hill
will put you into the 80+ range. Gotta be looking for the coppers
some times.
I take some personal pride in getting pretty good milage from a SHO,
but I have learned some tricks. the biggest of which is just to sit
back, relax, and drive 64 instead of 74... or 84... saves on tickets
too.
