[Shotimes] Re: Clutch

A fair question. In fact I did shop around for the clutch. Ford was
almost $400, the other vendors were also high. Advance had the best
price, all had the same guarantee. In my present state of finance I had
to go with the "low bidder". I also checked with the list and found that
others had used them successfully. As for the mount and sub frame parts,
we didn't know they were needed until the job started, they are dealer
only and the shop handled getting the parts anyway so I really had no
choice. And when you add in the shipping from a vendor the price
difference is minimal. I would have liked to be able to go into a known
sho specialist and just say fix it, but the money wasn't there for that
and in reality I still would have needed the extra parts no matter who
started the job. Had I tried doing it myself without a garage or lift
things would have been far worse. I do most of my own work but some jobs
are just too big, especially in mud season in Vermont.
It was not Advance's fault that some yutz at the supplier put the wrong
part in the kit, but they handled it well so I don't feel done in by
them. Sometimes you have to go with what you can afford rather than
what you'd like. This month, instead of paying my rent in full I am
driving a new clutch. Such is life. I sure hope next month is better
though.
