[Shotimes] Power steering and AutoRx

I used the Auto-RX in my '93 and it does indeed do what it is designed to do
and very well. Much more than "just and additive" and I did not use it as a
continued additive. After the treatment I switched to a Hi Mileage oil and
reduced my oil consumption from 700 miles a quart to over 2000 miles per
quart.

But the Auto-RX will clean the rings of carbon and give a noticeable
performance increase.

Here is a link to a documented treatment on a sludged up motor.

For the PS the cheapest and easiest treatment is plain old WalMart ATX fluid.
Buy a gallon and drain and refill the reservoir until it stays clean. Use a
white paper towel and place a drop of the old fluid on it to see how much dirt
is in it.

Then drain and refill until the fluid stays clean. Once clean you can start
using the PS fluid of choice for this cycle until two or three quarts have
been cycled through. Once clean drain and refill the PS reservoir once or
twice a year to keep it the way it should have been kept.

After Bill Staib reported to me that Valvoline Maxlife oil helped almost
totally stop leaks in his Gen I SHO, I tried it in my '89 with typical
front and rear main leaks. I ran it for part of the summer the last
two years, not the entire summer, as I still went with synthetic for
racing, but it has noticably slowed down the leaks. A big improvement.

I am a believer that you buy the oil engineered with all the additives
already in it, and don't put additives in. So if you are trying to stop
leaks, try the Maxlife (and there are several imitators that others have
reported good results with too) first, before just pouring in a bottle
  of something off the shelf.
