Since the MaxLife helped, I suspect that it's the seals themselves that were
the primary problem.

Since it still only went 1,600 miles/quart with no noticeable leaks, the
guides probably had some wear.

And if the oil use was due to bad valve guides, the typical problem with 
extreme oil use in the SHO V6, then no oil or additive is going to help.
