My primary difference was seen on RFG, which is alky fuel, with a bunch of other crap.
Differences were
- Decreased mileage
- Lower power, felt by the "butt dyno"
- Hard starting
- Godawful stink in the garage.
FWIW,with KY RFG, I would get to Monroe MI and the "low fuel" light would hit. I would get gas at the 400-mile mark before getting off I-94 about 30 miles shy of the in-laws place. Gassing up in MI, I would drive all the way back, and not get "Low Fuel" for the whole 450 miles.
FWIW (2) I never pinged, as the alky-RFG crap has decent octane.
I now occasionally run alky gas (Sunoco and a few other no-names around here) as more of a "fuel system cleaner", but the mileage record is inconclusive with regular alky gas versus my usual "real" gas, due to my irregular driving patterns.

I disagree with the lack of power on 10% ethanol. That is all I use and do no
better with the straight gas. I do get ~2 mpg less but that is because the
mixture is richened to meet the O2 sensor levels of straight gas.
