[Shotimes] (OT) "I Want to Pump Myself Up" an ode to NJ

Interesting article, though a little absurd if you ask me. A weekend
holiday on the NJ Turnpike does NOT count as normal traffic. I would
expect to wait 25 minutes on line during a weekend like that. Half of
NJ and 3/4 of Philly area residents of PA flock to the shore that
weekend!! Common sense should have told him to make a u-turn and back
into the right side lanes that were empty. If he had his eyes open he
would have seen plenty of other people doing it, if he couldn't figure
it out himself.
NJ probably has the cheapest gas on the entire east coast most of the
time also. I don't think employing "petroleum distillate distribution
engineers" is hurting our prices of gas. I travel to PA on a fairly
regular basis, and often stop at one particular station near a friends
house. There are usually 4 employees sitting in the office drinking
soda and reading magazines, waiting for someone to pull up to the full
service pumps and pay the extra $0.15/gallon, over the price posted on
the sign, to have someone pump it for them. Full service doesn't
include checking tire pressure and oil either. And the prices in PA are
ALWAYS HIGHER!!
I do agree that the fact that we are technically not allowed to pump our
gas by law is silly, but 8 times out of 10, I like not having to leave
the car. The other 2 times, I get out and pump it myself if the station
is busy. I've never had someone tell me to stop and get back in the
car. We even have pay at the pump, and have had it for years now. I
can probably count the number of times I've paid cash for gas on one
hand.
I agree with Paul though, it would be nice to get gas from a closed
station instead of driving around to find one that is open. Living in
one of the more rural parts of the state, that can be a pain sometimes,
it may be 10 miles to the nearest open station.
