The ability to provide deeper discharge levels and repeated cycles.
Smaller more efficent packaging.
More reliable of design.
Spill proof, any oreintation placement.
Longer life.

Normal car start batteries are designed to use the top 20% of their rated
capacity.  If they are deeply discharged repeatedly or left discharged they
will be damaged internally because of sulfation of the outside plate
material.
