Honestly, if you want to do it the right way, you have to take the whole
bezel off. It's not actually that hard. Two torx screws (T15/20, I
think) above the gage cluster, four torx screws (T20/25/30(?)) under the
steering column, two more torx screws (T15/20) under the gage cluster
and behind that knee guard and the whole thing comes off. Make sure you
remove the connectors to the headlight switch, foglight, rear defrogger
and clock. There are two screws, can't remember if they're Phillips or
torx, on either side of the vent. Once you get those off, it just slides
right out. Easy!

The easiest way to remove that vent is to break out
the remaining pieces and then pull it out. If you pry
against the frame of the vent while it's in the dash,
it'll leave a mark on the dash foam.
