It's probably a mechanical pump, driven by the cam, mounted on the block.

I know this has absolutely nothing to do with SHOs, but my buddy has an '88
monte carlo SS whose fuel pump died. I told him I'd help him change it out
(seriously, after the SHO's fuel pump how hard can a carbureted motor's fuel
pump be?), but I have no idea where it is. I'd hate to spend a half hour
looking for the damned thing. Does anybody know where the fuel pump is on an
'88 SS?
