Ken:
The purge canister usually is the cause of gas smells in and around the
front of the car. Sometimes the lines can get blocked but the usual failure
is the CANP(Canister Purge) valve dies and then the engine never can suck
the gas fumes back from the canister. So when the canister gets saturated
you start to smell gas fumes. Clogged vapor recovery lines cause the same
symptom.
I think you fuel pump needs replaced. Have you run a pressure check or fuel
delivery test?

For a while now Snow has had a little problem of " dying " and then
restarting after a couple of trying attempts......seems like the fuel pedal
is just dead. Today Bart started doing the exact same thing, same
way.......tach dies and the Christmas tree effect of dash lights happen and
nothing.....wait a couple of minutes and Voila......I am alive again. So my
SHOwizards.........Whatzzzzzzup with dat? Fuel pressure regulator..??
maybe??Not electrical at all.....so we can rule
