Not quite.

Average price of a regular new BMW....maybe $40K? Average price of new M5
maybe $90K, a 225% premium.

Average price of a used SHO (any SHO).....maybe $3K?? A 225% premium would
be $6,750.

That would be something like an '01 Focus hatchback or SES SLO in Excellent
condition (per KBB)!!

An apple to apple comparison would be Ford providing GT's to the SHO Club to
give away.

In giving away new SHOs??? Oh, wait........

Of course, it wouldn't cost much to give away cam-failed Gen 3s!! ;-)

BMWCCA was giving away M5's at their Oktoberfest convention this year. For
every 1000 (or so) entries, they would give away an M5. So, 1000 entries,
one M5 to give away. 100,000 entries, 100 M5's to give away.

Don, wouldn't it be nice if Ford supported the SHO Club that way?

Oh yeah, I didn't win one.

In keeping with ticking some people off with "other car" discussions!! ;-)

Went to my dentist last week, and saw that he had taken possession of his
new '06 M5. I didn't think they were out yet, but he says that his is one of
the first in the state. He had turned in his "old", underpowered 400 HP M5
for this one (!!). FWIW, he has leased a steady string of 540i 6-speeds,
then the old M5, now this one. He always gets black cars with black
interiors (one reason I like him!!). He had to settle for the SMG on this
one, as the 6-speed for the US market won't be out for anther year and his
lease was up now, but he says he will be back into a 6-speed when this
2-year lease is up.

Anyway, IMHO, not only is this the BEST looking M5 that BMW has ever
produced, it is the best-looking 5-Series ever made....period!! If you go to
www.bmwusa.com, you can option a black one and see it, but with the
M5-unique front & rear fascias, plus the side panel trim and the 19" wheels,
this is one mean-looking SOB.....way more so than the previous M5.

An interesting thing is the initial break-in. They recommend no more than 5K
rpm for the first 1,200 miles, then you MUST bring it in for its first
service at 1,200 miles. At this point, they change ALL of the fluids (except
for the coolant). He also understands that they then tweak the engine
management for full power (he says it seems a bit "doggy" right now).

I need to start buying PowerBall tickets again!!
