I believe there is actually publications that you can subscribe to for
private owners of military vehicles.  My father and grandfather are both
ex-military and military/history buffs, it's pretty much all they talk about
when they are in the same room together.  My dad has told me about
reading/seeing about people owning and restoring military vehicles.  Just
the other day he was talking about some guy out in the mid-west that
collects and restores APCs, and another guy with a farm that has tracked
vehicles that he drives around out in the fields.  

I bet you can find some decent info on the Internet.
