Exactly!!! Self-serve is for idiots....full-serve is for the intelligent!!!

Most places (if not all) remove that little latch on the pump handle, most
likely for liability reasons, so you have to stand there and squeeze the
trigger for the entire time. But, what if there's a blinding snowstorm, or
it's 20-deg below, or there's a thunderstorm with the "little bitty stingin'
rain" coming in sideways? No Thanks.

When you go out to a resaurant, do you go back to the kitchen and cook your
meal yourself? No. When you go out to a bar do you walk behind the bar and
pour the beer yourself? No. Why? Because you're paying for the product
and the service.

A steak bought at the supermarket is much cheaper than a steak at a
restaurant, and a 6-pack of beer costs alot less than 6 beers at a bar.
But, the funny thing is, the gasoline here in NJ is the same or cheaper than
what some of you pay for self-serve - and I get the product AND the
service!!

When you guys are done pumping your gas you have to either a) stand there in
the freezing cold, heavy rain, or sweltering heat waiting for the pump to
print out your receipt, b) walk across the parking lot to the Kwiki-Mart
(getting even more cold, wet, or sweaty) to pay the person inside (and he's
not stupid - he's sitting inside where it's warm and dry), or c) walk across
the parking lot to the Kwiki-Mart and pay the guy BEFORE you pump the gas.
Once inside the Kwiki-Mart you'll probably have to wait on line behind
people buying milk, newspaper, cigarettes, and lottery tickets.

Here's how we do it in NJ - especially when it's raining or snowing. I
crack the window open no more than 3 millimeters and tell the guy to "fill
it up, super", then I promptly close the window. When I here the gas cap
ratcheting closed I open the window, again a mere 3 millimeters, and slide
my credit card through, then quickly close it. When the guy returns with my
credit card and receipt I do the same thing again. I don't get cold, wet or
dirty, and neither does the inside of my car.

Have you ever looked at the ground at a gas station?!?!? It's an RCH away
from being an EPA Superfund site!!! All of the oil drippings, the puddles
of coolant, and the spilled gasoline, and numerous other fluids!!! I don't
want to step in that muck and track it into my car.

When I was living in Salt Lake City (for 6 months including the winter), I
frequently drove up to Wyoming to see the beautiful scenery. My rental car
was an Oldsmobile Alero and had an "average"-sized gas tank. That
"average"-sized gas tank seems giant when you have to pump your own gas
during a Wyoming snowstorm! When I lived in Irving, TX (for 6 months incl
the summer) my rental car was a Nissan Xterra. Filling that giant tank
during a sweltering 110-deg day sucked big time!!!

Even when I lived in Cypress, CA pumping my own gas was not enjoyable -
well, except that one gas station on the PCH in Malibu - great view of the
Pacific.

So, you self-serve flunkies are smarter than us because, why????
