Leigh,

I know there are some super soft tires that can be worn out in one race
weekend, but if you buy just a little different tire, you need not spend
all that money every weekend. I know people that run race tires for
many event s. I am one. I will get into a nice four wheel drift from
time to time, but I do NOT scrub my tires into huge understeer in low
speed corners. As long as you stay away from that, you can run tires
for a long time.

Plus get them heat treated by the Tire Rack, the minor expense extends
the live greatly and hurts ultimate grip very little.

Look over the comments on the Tire Rack site, and make sure your
alignment is OK, running enough negative camber is important so you dont
scrub off the outside of the front tires.

Also rotate the tires regularly. A Tire that is not directional is
great because you can not only rotate them front to back but side to
side. Plus after a season, flip the tires from side to side by taking
them off the rims and running the inside on the outside (if allowed by
the tire MFG.).

At Gingerman this year a guy in a new car (not a Ford) with expensive
summer tires was driving in SOOOO hot in turns that he was literally
turning on a dime and really scrubbing his front tires. He was fast in,
but oh so slow coming out, he probably wondered how that slow V8 SHO
could be so far back coming into a corner, but so close coming OUT of
the corner. Anyway, he ruined a set of nearly new tires in three
sessions. I could have driven that car faster and not hurt those tires
any that you could see. Driving style has a lot to do with it.
