93 model 49 state MTX, no EGR system.

I've been noticing a lot of these questions lately. Folks, catalytic converters do not last forever. Depending on model year, the Feds required the manufacturers to warrant them for different lengths of time. But the max was 100K miles. If you have more than 100K on your cats, you are living on borrowed time. It's just basic chemistry, or if you are in Kansas, magic. Anyway, if the usual quick fixes don't make it pass., e.g. pulling the SPOUT connector, good fuel, alcohol in the tank, etc, then the cats need to be replaced. Car Sound(MagnaFlow) makes some that fit right in there and they don't cost much.

Texas has also been tightening up there specs on testing this year. So, cars that passed before, may not pass now.

An inoperable EGR system will always cause high NOx readings, usually high
enough to fail.
